CROSSFIT ATHLETE MEL OCKERBY SHARES HER BEACH-READY WORKOUT

Have you gotten on the CrossFit bandwagon? Many celebrities are fans of CrossFit , and it's becoming more and more popular as a way to get results fast without being bored. Mel Ockerby is one such fan. The former gymnast started CrossFit training just two and a half years ago and now spends her days challenging herself and others as a Puma trainer and member of the reigning champion team in the Reebok CrossFit Games (I took a 12-minute workout with her last month, courtesy of Puma, and let me tell you, she knows what she's doing). CORE MUSCLES FOR RUNNING.

A great workout for this is the side plank. Lie on your side and support yourself with your elbow so that it’s vertically under your shoulder. Make sure your palm is facing upwards. Stretch your legs out straight and lift your hips so that your body forms a straight line. For more stability, you can place your upper foot in front of your foot on the ground. Now lift your upper leg until it’s about parallel to the ground and stretch your upper arm in the air, perpendicular to the floor. Hold for a few seconds and return to the starting position. After 6-8 reps, change sides and complete, four sets on each side. You’re trying to lose fat, not muscle. Source: Men’s Health Coach

Multi-joint exercises are the best exercises!

Have you ever seen the guy in the gym who does nothing but bicep curls? Did you also notice he never gets bigger? I know you have. He may actually be flexing in the mirror next to you right now. So why does this person cease to grow? It probably is a combination of many things, but a bulk of his problem is the fact that he isn’t stimulating enough muscle. To truly spark muscle growth and place stress on the body, a person must use multi-joint lifts. Multi-joint lifts are exercises that utilize more than one joint. Because more joints are used, more muscle is also used. Makes sense right? Because more muscle is used, a person can use more resistance than they could with a single joint lift. This increases tension placed on the muscle and elevates the levels of stress placed on the body.
